Jack, you need to be more specific about what "hydraulic unit" you have. Is it a Caterpillar #44 or #41? Is it LaPlant or other manufacturer? If the valve is a seperate entity, it sounds like you have a pieced together system without a proper valve. If you can get the Caterpillar pumps, the valve is internal and all you have next to the operators seat is a lever, connected to the front mounted hydraulic unit via a control rod, that operates up when you pull the lever, down (pressure) when you push forward and float when you push all the way forward and lock. Could you post a picture of the system you are interested in?
Caterpillar pumps are very heavy, but I doubt the shipping would be as much as $300 unless you are getting the whole setup (hydraulic lines, splitter valve, etc.). We need more info.
My hydraulic unit is a front mounted one, serial 4W8. I think it is a 41, not a 44. At one time, Cat offered a 7F5200 Float Valve Changeover Group. Finding one of those is impossible, so I opted to try to find a later valve from a unit that had a serial number 4W485 and up. I hope this is a good clarification.
Jack
The 4W series is an early 25 gpm single valve #44 pump with float added above s/n # 485-up. Prices can be all over the map with about $1,000 being typical if in good condition. Going to be heavy to ship, unit weighs 365 lbs so at a rough $1/lb your in the ball park.
Can anyone tell me what a 9W2024 Hydraulic pump is. It came with a D2 4U I bought.
That's a very common normally 25 gpm single valve that fits many D2 & D4 applications (pump group # 7F3983)
Would the 9W2024 have the float mode.
It would have float provision as original.....only the very early models were without.
