I need some help in identifying the generator on my 1956 D2 5U. I have a couple pictures and the numbers on the plate are Delco Remy 1102734 6C26. The only thing is the "C" could be a "D". Also you can see what is left of the regulator. I don't know how much trouble it is to get a new regulator but my plans are to eventually take the generator off and let a nearby shop check the generator. I am assuming about the only thing the generator was good for was the lights.

1102734 crosses to 8f3333, 6V, 19A, CW rotation, used on D2 and other Applications for both lighting, and pony electric starting groups.

My old Delco-Remy book lists the Delco-Remy regulator #1118873 to be used on the 1102734 generator under the Caterpillar 1954-1958 application section. Unfortunately I can't find any specs for this regulator number, and it's so old it might be difficult to cross to a newer model. Hopefully someone else has some better specs.😊

I would think any the 6V regulators off the Cats would work ok.

I would bet that if your local shop is any good, they can find a suitable replacement for that regulator. A lot of old cars, trucks and other tractors used that same style.

If it was mine I would get the numbers off the starter and see if it's a 6 or 12 volt model. A 6 volt starter will work with a 12 volt power supply, but you won't get much out of a 12 volt starter on a 6 volt system. If you are going to use the 6 volt generator you'll need a 6 volt starter and battery. Good clean and true armatures and brushes on both units and nice big battery cables to help the current get to the load and the 6 volt system will work great.

I have used 8volt batteries in the older machines-they would crank the 6v starter over quicker and still charge with the 6v generator

The problem with using an 8-volt batttery is that I doubt that it will fit in the battery box of the older cats. The battery called for is a 6-volt group 1 type. The group 2 6-volt will not fit in the Battery box -too big. I would think that an 8-volt Battery is a group 2 Battery only. Could be wrong though.😊

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
