Still Working On D2 With Pony Motor Problem While Waiting For Mag And Carb We Decided To Replace The Main Engine Fan Belt. How Does The Shaft From Crank To The Hydrolic Unit Move Do You Have To Remove The Six Bolts On The Crank Than Move The Hydrolic Unit Foward After Removing The Pipes To The Valve And Attacking Bolts Or Does The Shaft Slide Into The Pump . Ican't Seem To Find Any Info On This Procidure . The Pump Is A Cat Model 44 The Machine Is A 5u17575. Thanks In Advance For Any Help Dan

Yes I believe if you remove the drive from the crank that the shaft is telescoping over the pump shaft & move it ahead to give room to slip the belt by the coupling. It,s been many years since I changed one unless someone else has more up to date info. on doing it.

There is a set screw #8F4131 that allows the six bolt flange to slide forward after you undo the six bolts as well as telescoping the coupling shaft forward. You may still have to loosen the #44 housing to pull it forward enough for belt clearance.

It has been a while since I have done it but I think I had to turn the belt sideways and had very little clearance. Not enough room to pick it straight out. It is not uncommon to have a leaky waterpump and wear in the seals/ bearings. See how much the fan moves while you have the belt off of it. As the other fellows have said, The shaft should move back into the Hydrolic pump. Dave!

Are you referring to the jacking bolt holes on the flange??? also was there enough clearance without disturbing the #44 housing?? That's making pretty good time for a somewhat dreaded task😄 😄

For these kind of dreaded fanbelt access jobs, I've seen guys put TWO belts on, when everything was separated .. and tie the spare belt to parts of the engine, back out the way.
That way, when the operating belt gave up the ghost, all that was required, was to unclip the other new belt that was already in place, and install it.
Wouldn't be too acceptable on a concours show tractor .. but on a working tractor, it's a very practical solution to save a heap of additional work, when belt change time comes around again.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
