I used Old Magnets imageshack data and got with my semi retired machinist to convert my 1954 d2 to direct start. I bumped the starter over this past wend and the cat wanted to start even though the motor wasn't connected to the chassis. It was a beautiful thing!! For battery I went with a single 1250 ca and it spins the engine just fine. Sam, my machinist, made up an awesome battery plate that will block off bell housing to hold the battery. Although I went with option 3, I am letting go of pony since I won't need to start cat below 60degf. I got a switch from cat that you push and turn, I believe it is used on a d6. I put the engine back on chassis Sunday so I'm down to the fun stuff. I am changing out 41 with 44 hydraulics, going with a better radiator so cat should be back in action in a matter of days. I promise to get some pictures and possibly a video of the 2nd bump test. We didn't get the 1rst test on film. I am also using firewall from my 52 parts cat. It is in perfect shape but has had the decals painted over. So I asked Sam to cut out the big faded decal from 54 firewall and I will bolt it on to the replacement. I named the 54 Old Ang after my wife. She may not be to cat spec but is beautiful. Thanks again to Old Magnet and others on the bb who have helped me with this project. I can't wait to pull Olg Ang out of the shop and play!!!
