My D2 is early enough that it has button head fittings for the track rollers. I must admit only being familiar with zerk fittings. Looking on the internet, looks like I'm going to pay $30 or so for one of these couplers to use on my hand pump grease gun.

Anybody know 1) a good source and 2) exactly what size I need to purchase?

Already searched for answers to the track roller lube but didn't find much on these button fittings.

Can't help you on where to find them.
These fitting are for higher volume and low pressure. Track rollers use very thin grease almost gear oil. If you start pumping in grease with a normal grease gun the pressure wil be too high and blow out the seals very easily.
The best option is try and find the proper grease pump, you often see them on ebay and a good one will have the fitting on the hose ready to go. When you pump the grease you can feel on the handle when the roller is full and release the pressure with a small handle on the pump. Still a messy job, part of the fun of old cats.

I think I got my replacement at NAPA. They may not have it in stock but should be able to order it.

Weekend Dozer,

I would do as wimmera farmer said try and find a regular track gun one that has the adjustable settings on the handle,(three pin holes) they are of the newer type, a lot better than the ones with the release handle. The ones with the release handle more offend have the cable broken and are hard to fix and repair, if they can be fixed at all. The bottom (ball) value is also troublesome.

On the older tractors with the rollers as you have, the grease should be a “stringy, tricky lubricant of a semi-fluid consistency at the prevailing atmospheric temperature. No. 2 grade for most temperatures, for extremely low temperatures use No 0 or No 1.” These should work fine in your area, may be a little stiff in the winter, but still ok. Back in the day the best track Lube. was the D-A double (00).

Thanks for all the good info. I found a button fitting coupler in the CAT's GREASY toolbox this morning. So, I've got the coupler and just need a pump. Glad you explained to not use regular grease gun. I was knew about being careful with pressure and the seals, didn't know lubing these tracks took a different pump (gun). I'll be watching the auction on E-pay.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
