I understand that I have to remove the final drives to replace the brake bands on my D2 (5U).  The Service Manual says that I don't have to remove the sprockets from the final drives to remove the finals from the tractor.
When the final drives are removed, does the steering clutch drum come out with the final drive and can the brake band be removed from the drum without removing the drum from the final?

The link with the photographs is helpful.  I can see that the brake/steering clutch drum comes off with the final drive, and I can see the brake band in the photograph.  Can the brake band be slid off of the drum while the drum remains mounted in the final drive?

Hi Delta,
yes, it's my understanding that you can remove the brake band without having to remove the brake drum, so long as the band anchor comes out no problem. Mine didn't and I needed all the room I could get to cut the pin and remove it piece by piece. I had to replace the drum anyway so it was coming off no matter what.
