Make sure the set screw on the inside edge of the nut is removed before putting any force on the nut. If things were so rusted up, you may not have noticed this set screw.
Check real close for the set screw, there maybe two of them. Take a wire wheel and clean it off real good.
I picked up a complete set of drums (inner and outer) plus all of the disks from John at steeringclutches.com last year. John was real good to work with.

I ordered a main clutch disk for a D2, came broken, called and he shipped another without question. I would do bussiness with him again, no issues here. Hope it helps. I have a couple of drums, but I'm not sure that I want to get rid of them yet. If you get in a real pinch, we can talk.

i had bought steering clutches from john at general gear i would call on him agean if i needed somthing . i have used the clutches for two years with no problems.
Thanks for the advice, never noticed the set screws. I need to clean the rust off first.
I ordered the brake drum from Steeringclutches.com, should be here today or tomorrow.
Are there any tips on replacing the steering clutches. I have clutch pieces off the Cat and am ready to reassemble but I have a few questions.
What order do the discs stack on the shaft or does it not matter?
Any tips for how to compress the springs and place the keepers?
I was going to center the discs by sight or should I lay the drum over the inner hub to center the discs then remove the drum and then do the springs and keepers?
Once the inner hub is assembled how do I get it on the splined shaft? I do not have a 3/4 inch impact wrench but I may need to get one. I can just bang on a 3/4 inch breaker bar but I am not sure that would tighten enough.
Same thing with the brake drum, am I going to need a 3/4 inch air wrench?
Thanks,
I made a tool without seeing the tool that was available from CAT. I put the assembly together inside the brake drum to facilitate later assembly. Then when its all lined up I clamp it tight and pull it out of the drum. See the tool in photo's

If you don't have a good 3/4" or 1" impact wrench or a hydrolic cylinder to press the drums on you'll need a very good breaker bar with about 4 to 5 feet of cheater bar to get them tight enough.
