Hey all
I have a d2 5u and the left track keeps walking off. I have done up the idlers on both sides. The carrier rollers are all good. They are adjusted to caterpillars spec of 1 1/2 to 2 inches. I have read on hear about if the track chain pins and bushes are warn they will jump off. My pins and bushes have play in them but not sure how bad they have to be to "snake" off. Would this be my problem and if so where would I go in Australia to get new chains as the plates, rolers and sprockets are all good.

Cheers

Hi, Rooster1928.
Is that '1928' your street address or your birth year? LOL.

Tell us wair yatt, M8. It'll give folks closest to you a better idea of who to suggest for your 'noo' track chains.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Hi Rooster 1928 , Pins and Bushes are available Non Genuine , what is your Rail Height , need that to see if it is worth Fitting New P & B's . you can still get Non Genuine Tracks as they fitted road Profilers and I think you can Get new Chains from Cat. New 30 link Assy is part No is 2888893. think it is Chain only ,But you probably need a few Gold Chains to Buy them !! tell us what State You are in. LJ

Does it always walk off in the same direction? Might want to do a simple check and measure from the track to the machine frame and make sure the whole track assembly is running true with nothing bent. A bit of duck walk going on makes it hard to keep warn tracks on.

Yes Cat can supply the chains - I enquired last September and I'm still receiving therapy for the cost trauma and so I can't recall the cost but it was very high.

Otherwise you can go the D3 route as early D3 chains and rollers will fit - as discussed on ACMOC a few times already, and they are much cheaper than genuine D2 chains. BTW D2 rollers and plates are nowwhere to be found in Aus anymore. For example, I was quoted 40 dollars each for second hand D2 plates!

New Berco chain is about $1,000 a side for the D2 here in Oz, well it was last time I was offered some, though you will need to drill out your plate mounting holes a little larger, from 1/2" to 9/16", Tilly's recently quoted me around $400 a chain to turn pins and bushes on D2 size chain if I removed the plates first, if it needed new pins and bushes that would add several hundred dollars per side, new Cat nuts and bolts for the plates if needed are about $1 per hole, so figure about $250.

Tell people where you are, to the nearest town, that helps solve problems a bit easier.

Thanks for the reply's, it will jump of when you are traveling both directions but only if you turn sharply. But it doesn't happen every turn. I will measure my rail hights next time I go to it (as it is on a property 2 hours from hear). Lol no it's not my birth year or address 1928 are just random numbers. I live in north qld near Townsville. All the running gear looks in good nic apart from the play in the pins and bushes. The plates still have 20mm grouser on them. The pins have not been turned nor are the warn from the sprocket. I have been slowly rebuilding it and are nearly upto painting it. I have been doing a little bit of work with it to see how it performs and then I found ou about this. Does anyone have specs on the rail hight and the track roler measurements I can check next week when I visit it 😀
Cheers

Bottom rollers new OD of the running face is 178.3mm
Link new height 76.2mm

Get hold of Joe Camilleri in Innisfail, 07 four zero six four four one one five, call him after 7.30 at night, but before 9, he has a track press for pushing pins and bushes and sells new D2 chain from Berco, he is the FNQ guru on those D2's, I have a 5U sitting in his shed right now that we rebuilt the back end on 2 years ago, he's fast and doesn't charge like a wounded bull, plus he's just a really good bloke.

Yeah I think they sold them to Tilliys and I called them and they said they have no tracks left.
