I have new double flange rollers but no new single flanged ones and was wondering if anyone has heard of cutting the inside flanges off on a lathe as to make a single flanged roller? Can it be done? How hard is the steel?

Thanks Larry

I cut down several sets of the double flange rollers on a lathe, tough and slow, but worked ok. The shavings that came off were very tough and very sharp, the slightest touch and they would cut.

Thanks Josh I had a friend with an old lathe that could not even make a scratch on the flange. I guess I'll take them to a machine shop.

You'll need carbide tip cutters to even touch these.

The gas axe is the cheapest and most economical method. After all, no-one's going to look at 'em, and pick holes in your finish.. 😄

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
