I recently purchased a D2 at a estate sale , it's been sitting for at least 10 yrs, I got the pony running (only on 1 cyl), when I was at the sale and at home I could pull on the fan belt and turn the diesel side a lil bit, started the pony motor and engaged it , the diesel turned maybe 1/8 - 1/4 turn and stopped, stalling the pony, I then put a pipe wrench on the motor and now it won't budge , any ideas?,,,,thanks in advance

Sounds like you might have a broken connecting rod. Pull oil drain plug to see if any metal comes out, save oil in a 5 gal bucket. It could be so many different things, start with the least costliest item and go thru a mechanical check list. Good luck!!

Also , the stack wasn't on when I purchased it. There was a small cover over the exhaust pipe that I really don't think it kept water out ,plus there was a mouse nest in the exhaust manifold,so could a cyl with the exhaust valve open be rusted?,and it has a blade on it. , could there be something wrong with the hyd pump?, and the motor won't budge either direction with a pipe wrench

So I should remove the mouse nests and dump some pb blaster down the exhaust to take care of the mouse pee?

mate I would just pull the head off and have a looksee even if it is rusty in side you might be able to save it by gently jacking down on the cylinder heaps of diesel first fill each pot up and leave for a few days if rusty before trying

Yep! pull the head, then youll be able to check the liners for any scoring or pitting, might as well check the valves and guides and reseal the prechambers. This way you know everything is checked and no problems down the road with head etc.

FYI , took valve cover off,,, all valves move, sucked the mouse nest out with shop vac and dumped a mix of pb blaster and evapo rust into the cyl that had the exhaust valve opened and dumped some in the other exhaust ports in the manifold, now we wait and see

I have had mouse nest inside cylinder having entered through valve. I was able to clear it with shop vac set to blow through intake and working closed valve up and down manually. Nest material exited through exhaust.

Tried turning motor with a pipe wrench with a 4ft pipe on the end today and still stuck

I'd remove the injectors and dump some ATF/Acetone (50/50) mix in there, and let sit for a few days/weeks.

Then ever so gently try and rock engine back and forth.

If you have a no go, removing the cylinder head is the next option.

Good luck

But what's puzzling is that motor turned an 1/8-1/4 of a turn then locked and now won't budge
