If the pads are the same width, it would be so close to the 5J you would have to squint to see it.
Neil--my 5U parts book has width 5-'5 3/4"---length--8' 11 7/8 "----weight--7430 #----i think your very close with 4000# weight
D2 U Model specs...
Pete---the weights don't match---what could be the difference??
Neil--i have a 10000 gvw tilt trailer in Ma that you could use--it is 69 inches wide on the deck between rails--electric brakes and all lights work--standard 7 prong connector
5U1-13236 is 6,870 lbs
5U13237-up is 7,430 lbs (longer case)
You could put that on a U-Haul trailer provided the track pads fit between the fenders.
Heh, I looked at uhaul - they have a 6x12 internal dimensions that's only good for 2600#, and a "car trailer" that's good for 5900#, but they want to see the car on it. Amazingly, they did not have an option online to select a 1950 model year Caterpillar D2! Still can't believe it ; )
I'm hoping that it will work out to borrow a member's gooseneck but if I wanted to wing it with the uhaul, I wanted to check that it would fit.
Dan, thanks very much for the offer! I'll probably go local because I'm not a fan of long distance (more than 30 minutes : ) driving but much appreciated in any case.
I should remember to go over the scales and see just what it weighs.
Neil,
We have a truck rental outfit out here - Penske. Don't know if they are back there or not. There used to be Ryder back there. Anyways, I can get a F-550 with a 16' flatbed and hydraulic liftgate for $95/day and $0.29 per mile. You would have to figure out the loading/unloading and a loading ramp/forklift on each end. Also, the Big Tex dealer here in S CA will rent a large equipment trailer if you give them enough time to schedule it.
Jan
a good "bobcat" trailer will work should be wide enough and definitely strong enough
