I recently bought D2 5J3742 with the pony motor stuck because of a thrown rod (Lost a bearing cap bolt). I had to have the crank main bearing surfaces and the rod bearing journals ground 20 thousand, and of course new bearings and a new rod and a bunch of other stuff I never knew I needed.
I am now in the process of putting it all back together, I hope. I have already run into 2 problems:
1. Does anybody know where I can find information on how many foot/pounds to tighten the rod bearing bolts? The head bolts?
2. It appears that the only way to adjust the end play on the crankshaft is by varying the distance the crankshaft main bearing on the "main engine" side of the pony motor is pressed into the pony motor block. Caterpillar did not pre-drill the crank bearing to receive the steel keeper dowel on this side, I think to allow for this end play adjustment. The pony motor main bearing on the operator side is drilled to receive the steel keeper dowel, so no problem there. So--does anybody know what the end play on a D 2 5J pony motor crankshaft is supposed to be?--or where I can find this information?--or is it not that critical as long as it is "close"?
Any help will be appreciated.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
