I believe solid idlers were used on the later 5U model tractors, and they are a bigger diameter.
1945 is when cat came out with there own line of construction equipment. And you could get bigger diameter idlers but spoke then in 1947 the u series stuff came out which was real hot rods. Then by 1956 all cats had factory solid idlers wether they were small or big. That's my perspective. 😄
The 23 1/2 spoked were an option on the J models the first solid came with 5U15306 in 1955 the first 2S dozer was a 9F model in 1948
Willie- Thanks for the answer. What makes of blades did Cat offer and were they factory installed or dealer installed?
Im not sure but I think all the stuff before Cat did their own was done at the dealer and sold sep.(maybe some of the old farts like SJ or OM can shed some lite on it) I cant find anything that a D2 had other then the Toolbar setup ,Trackson loader and 2A&2S blades with Cat hdy units. But I have seen them with Kay-Baldwin and Holt blades . On the D4 they had blades that were factory installed LeT Cable useing a LeT single, double or specail unit to mount on the Hyster log winch and LaP-C for hyd blades useing a LaP-C hyd pump and valve during war they went straight from factory to the docks for shipment and was same setup used on the 6G30s and R4s for bigger size machines there is a long list of dozer makes
My D2-5J 6334 has a Lap-C blade On it as original equipment.
I bet if you dig under something it will be OD green also and does it have sp for the high gearing package also
Actually yes most of the engine was still green and under the hydraulic oil tank it was still green and yes it has SP.
Why?
All wartime D2s had higher geared transmision group for out running the bullets and had SP all were painted OD Green if they went to war or to the farm. Does the blade have a model number on it like 2R Ive never seen smaller the the R4 model for the D4.
Does it have the GI plates on it
