Hi folks,
I need some help with my D2 toolbar hydraulics. I am in the process of restoring a 1952 D24U No 5532 and seem to have all the usual problems that everyone else on this site seems to have with these old machines eg leaking radiator, bottom roller seals and bearings etc etc etc.
Whilst waiting for seals and bushes to be made for the bottom rollers I thought I might have a go at repairing the toolbar lift cylinders.
I remember when the tractor was running that the rams would be slow to operate and leakdown pretty quickly. The dust seals are blowen and pistons are a bit damaged from rocks or misguided hammers. The chrome has worn away on a few sections of the pistons as well. I was thinking that I might get new pistons made and install new seals through out each cylinder. I have a #41 hydraulic control ser No S24C-191(made in Aust) but I have no parts details for this unit in my parts book. So, I was hoping that somebody might be able to provide a list of seal part no's for the hydraulic rams and as well a scan of the parts breakdown of the #41 Hydraulic control
unit.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Looks to be different model applications for the US vs Aus versions as the US 24C single valve starts out at #24C-365 even though the parts book states 24C1-up. That's for a D2 4U1-6372.

Can you find a part number on the hydraulic cylinder? Not sure I have the right one.

Thanks Old Magnet, you are a legend.
The attachment diagrams looks like the right hydraulic controller drawings. Now I can try and get some seals for the drive shaft housing. I suspect that the housing was only manufactured here in Australia but fitted out with the original cat pump.
The clylinders at the oil line clevis end have part No 1H4331 stamped on the casting and at the other end of the cylinder the dust seal casting has No 1H4433 cast into it. I hope that will help you with your search.
Once again, thanks very much for your help.

Your 1H4331 # is probably pretty close to the part number. The info I have is for either a much earlier or later tool bar cylinder. Maybe someone else can come up with the correct unit parts diagram.

I am watching this thread with interest, having just acquired a '53 D2 with the same issues as you have, plus a lot more I suspect!!

Keep us informed of your progress.

Here are a few photos of the disassembled hydraulic ram and a couple of the internals of the #41 Hydraulic controler.

Thanks Old Magnet.
The drawing looks to be near enough to the correct one. At least I will be able to check part No's with Cat to make sure they will fit with what I have.
Tanks very much for your help. I will keep you posted with the outcome although the way things happen around here it could be some time down the track before I get it all together and tested out.

Cheers

Here is the #41 drive coupling that goes along with it...a little different with its spring loaded shaft.

For reference, 1H4433 is part of, hydraulic cylinder group 1H0813, which has a service part # 4H6711.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
