Well it has been a while since I checked in, partly due to computer issues.

Anyhow, this Spring I had my Cat mechanic (retired) help me rebuild the idlers on my D2 4U. They were really sloppy, floating from side to side and getting wobbly. We sat down and made a list of the parts we would need last Fall, and I got everything from Dana down in Sacramento. So I dropped the Cat off at my mechanic's in May, and he called me a few days later and said "nothing fits". I turns out somebody had swapped out the stock D2 4U idlers from a set from a 5J (which are taller- I'm okay with that!). Any how, he knew a machine shop in Colville that could help out, and he had new axles and bushings made up from scratch that fit perfectly. (at far less cost than the Cat pieces!)

I got the machine back and everything looks and works fine, no more slop. This machine is pretty much set up now, all the issues have been addressed- except adding a winch or rebuilding my old winch and re-installing it.

So, I am sitting here with a pile of parts for anyone looking to rebuild their D2 4U idlers. Let me know if you need them.

I'm interested, Greg - my 5U idlers are terrible. Can you send a parts list and I'll see if they're going to work for mine. I may swap out the entire idler wheels as at least one of mine is so worn out it might be a challenge to build it back up.

Neil- look at the ad I just posted in classifieds, with part numbers. Don't know if my 4U parts will work on your 5U.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
