D2 4U Hydrualic oil filter

Well, it's definitely a non standard arrangement as the #41 didn't have any filtration and the #44 by-pass filter is a joke. It's not a bad idea though and the installation looks pretty good. Not sure what you mean by gaps to allow flow if filter clogs. Seems any permanent gap would allow leakage and defeat the purpose. Usually there is some sort of bypass relief valve should the filter become clogged. So long as you are aware that the unit is in there and periodic service is required the idea looks good to me.

Thanks Old Magnet. The gap I metion is between the filter housing and the baffle - there is around a 1/8" gap there. There certainly is no bypass or relief valve. So...as you hint, if the filter is not getting full flow due to 'leakage' I may be better off removing the lot and returning to standard.

My D7 has a similar set up in the bottom of the hyd tank. I have never had the tank apart so i dont have any pictures of it up close, but i can take a couple from the top of the tank if you would like.
