Can anyone help with the engine high idle setting in a 4U 5831 serial numbered D2?

I have low idle (550rpm) from the service manual, but can not nail down the high idle speed.

Any help appreciated.

Bruce, The rack setting from the Cat rack setting book for that serial number I have from the dealer shows for the specs you give for RPMs and spring # is .285 setting not .365 and that calls for a 9F4113 nozzle and high idle at 1710 and with a 4F4236 nozzle the rack setting is .215 and 1680 high idle. Both settings use the 5F1940 gov. spring as you stated. The full load RPMs is the 1525 RPMs and gives 38 HP for both settings.

hello sj ,my books shows those setting for serial numbers-
4u1-4u5009 ,both sets of specs are issued 12/1956,without having the number of the governor group and spring number we really don't know which info he needs ,
i would go for 38hp instead of 42hp for the setting i posted ,

i looked in my second book and they give different rack setting too for just 4u/5u with no break down of serial numbers for 38hp

Thanks for all of your responses. Once I pull the Governor off to inspect & reseal I will reference the parts actually fitted to confirm. I think at this stage I will run with the earlier 38hp spec's. Thanks again for your help and advise.

Never ceases to amaze me at the amount of knowledge & literature that is out there for these old girls!
