Just wondering if anyone can tell me when Cat changed the fuel tank on a D2 from being on the side of the machine to being on the rear behind the seat.
Thanks in advance ๐Ÿ˜Š

I don't think the change you are describing was a serial number break, since the tank configuration was an option. However, my 5J 3501-10,561 parts book lists the seat tank in the standard section and the rear seat and fender mounted tank as attachments.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time๐Ÿ˜„

Thanks Ccjersey, I am just trying to see if the 3j I have has an original tank or not as I thought that the tanks were originally on the side.

It seems like in the early days most farmers ordered the optional fender tank. If you sit in your seat and look back at the drawbar it is impossible to see the drawbar for hitching up equipment. Also the fender tank gave kind of a cockpit feel, some protection and something to lean on when working sidehills.
