Hey Perttu,
If you keep collecting projects at this rate you will need to live a few lifetimes to complete all of them.
There is nothing like a V8, maybe find another D8 with a stuffed engine and re power it.
Thankyou and your Aunty for your kind hospitality when The Dragon lady and I visited, I have only just arrived home, will try and post a couple of photo's next week.
Hello again.
I almost didn`t believe my ears when I heard that someone had D17000 for sale. I had to see it and some how it`s now mine .the engine is complete expect the pony which is missing at least the connectin rods. The pony is in storage so i haven`t seen it yet. Engine oil is clean and and it turns from the fan blades. It has been in a long boom excavator.
Now i have a problem. For the firts time ever I have now idea what to use this engine for. I spent almost hole night thinking what to do with it.:humble:
I`ll get the serial number when I get it home. This might be bit heavy for my 3,5ton trailer. 😄
the cool factor is worth it alone iffen u got the room 4 it. good luck.
Hi Pertu, if you come across an old D8, you can fit the engine into that. Someone in the U.K. did that to a D7 or D8 - there's a video on youtube of it. Mack V8 - if you like the sound of a V8, you're going to love that truck : ) Interestingly, the D17000 does not have your classic V8 sound. I used to have one and enjoyed it immensely - had the old 12-speed so accuracy was a must for clutchless shifting!
Yea the d17000 doesn`t sound at all like regular V8. I think it might have similar crankshaft as four cylider engines do. That would explain it. That`s just a guess though.
Th D7 might work. I know one nearby with a D8 winch and failed engine. Maybe with a blade it would be too nose heavy? Winch gives some balance tough.
Here are a couple of pictures of a D7 with D17000 engine fitted by a collector here in the UK.

Thank you for the pics. It looks like the engine would have always been in the tractor. Thats one way to do it, maybe that`s the way I do it too.
Hey Perttu,
We drove to Oulu after we left you and spent the night there before driving up to the Arctic Circle. It was snowing when we got up in the morning, I didn't have to acclimatise when I arrived back in Melbourne, it was much the same temperature, as what it was in your COLD mid summer.
Don't bother watching U tube videos of V8 Mack trucks, just come to Australia and you can have a drive of mine.
Other members please note, Perttu has an Aunt who puts on a real mean afternoon tea, we felt totally spoilt when we visited.
Neil
That D7 will soon have the drivetrain tore up with that much power going through it. They used those engines in switch locomotives also. Also as power units and gen sets.
