Hello old magnet , SJ , and all ,
Here we go again , I am having a problem with the carb flooding on the pony of the 13000 , I can get the pony to start and idle but when I release the govenor rod the engine revs up but floods and produces black smoke ,also does not reach full governed speed I have the main needle all the way closed , I have tried lowering the float , I have had this carb to a carb shop 3 times !!!
If I shut off the gas the the engine will clear up for the last thirty seconds , befor it runs out of gas ,stop smoking hit governed rpm , I am able to start the diesel ,But would like to have the pony running right . Any and all iput welcome .
Regards ,
Charles Poole

Hi Charles,
That's a pretty simple carb. Must be something that is being consistently overlooked on set up and assembly. It's the cap jet assembly that controls the rate of fuel by the size and shape of the openings when operating. That's the one that is sort if diagonally through the center of the carb. Has the float valve and float setting been checked?

If all else fails maybe try another carb (same on D7's & 8's).

what did the carb dudes do? did they kit the carb? i just ordered a kit from
cat for my 4T 7 at 150 dollars, be here today via denver. have you tried
to adjust your mixture screw. as mentioned it could be the float. you need
to tear it down yourself or take it to the carb shop with fuel in it. they can
take the top off and see if the float is saturated with fuel. check your
adjustments first if you have not tried that. there is a T handle rich lean
screw.

Also make sure that the crankcase oil in that starting engine does not get contaminated with gasoline and thin the oil, even if you suspect it, change the oil, hopefully you will get to the bottom of the carb problem, I've had one of those completely fill and overflow the crankcase, from some sort of leak down problem, gas thinned oil is not a good thing for these starting engines.
