Heres a couple quick pictures of my D-8 after I got it painted. I'll take some better ones after I get the decals back on and the seat fixed.

She looks good Andy 😄 . How did you prep it for paint?

You have an extra diamond plate floor board oil clutch inspection cover? My late model 2U is missing the oil clutch cover.

Thanks Mike!

I probably spent atleast 8 hours pressure washing it with a 400psi hot water pressure washer. That took care of all the grease, dirt, and most of the loose paint. Then I spent a few hours with a D/A sander and a body grinder working on some of the rough spots. Then brushed some primer on the bigger bare metal spots.

The color isn't official CAT yellow. Its Van Sickle "Transport Yellow", but seems close to the correct color and is affordable ($35/Gal) I added hardener to it and sprayed it with a HVLP spray gun. It took 3 1/2 gallons to spray, and I still need to touch up some of the U/C and give the top of the roof another coat. So 4 gallons pretty much is what it will come down to.

I don't have any extra parts around. Is the 2U cover the same as a 15A? Are you talking about the cover thats right under the panel with the gauges? The one you remove to adjust the main clutch? That one looks pretty easy to make if you have access to a plasma cutter and welder.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
