I have a D-6 47A 301 tractor .The track adjuster cylinders 5M6705 & 5m6706 are worn and corroded internally to the point that they will not seal any longer .No new parts are available from cat and not having any luck finding any aftermarket vender reproducing these cylinders.
Has anyone experienced this problem ? what repair can be done if honing is not possible to repair the seal surface ?This cylinder is hard chromed internally and externally

I tracked them on Machinery Trader .They had 1 in stock that they were reserving for a local customer .I found on trader 2 new in Austrillia .They replied with i used one which may be in the same condition as mine .I am amazed that the amount of 74and 76 a d-6 's that are still around that there are no track adjustment cylinders to be had or a reman manufacture

That's a 74A. not 47A.
They dumped those left and right cylinders and went to two 1S5331 cylinders at s/n 74A1245-up.
Here is one possible aftermarket source...

Thanks Old Magnet for your lead on this part . Looking threw CEA ,s parts list ,they have other parts that I need for this repair. I am going to buy from them in addition to the track adjuster cylinder .
I am wondering why the local Cat Dealer could not change up the numbers .
thanks again .

Checking the parts books, all the other parts of the adjuster are the same between early and late. They did change the idler push rod from a 7M1855 to a 2S6265 so I would advise checking the bolt pattern. Also the grease fittings will be slightly different orientation.

On mine the grease fittings ended up about 45 degrees out. I had to modify the washer / keeper on the idler end of the push rod to be able to roll the grease fittings up to where I would be able to service them. Although now as I write this I'm starting to think I may have done that because the orientation of the new pushrod was out......

Hello Silver,
What exactly was the modification you had to make?

The little keeper plate that goes on the idler end of the push rod has a notch in it that lines up with a little dog on the idler bridle. (Please pardon my terminology). It appears to me that this is to prevent the push rod assembly from rotating but the problem was that once assembled the grease fittings would be out 45 degrees one way or the other. I had to make a new notch in the keeper plate so I could clock the assembly to my satisfaction. There may well have been a simpler solution but I was not clever enough to find it lol

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
