in my experience, the outer bearing is more than likely shot, it can be replaced without complete dissassembly of the final drive. you can do it with basic handtools and a hydraulic jack.
That is the exciting thing with old Caterpillar's.
Once you open them up you never know where you will finish up!!!!!
Guys---that is a turbo that has been added---know nothing about them and not sure if i will keep it! This machine is going to be an adventure--seller said it had a knock.![]()
Ha! no wonder the push braces are all patched up! wam! bam! there ya go mam!
Try adjusting up the bearing pre-load first, it has been leaking before anyway, the sprocket will also soon need some attention, there is hardly anything left of the teeth.
sorry I haven't got back sooner.
Not sure what you mean the bearing pre-load is.
I thought my sprocket teeth look pretty good. How can I tell how worn they are? What should measurements be?
thanks for your reply.
