The contacts in the Starter solenoid are fouled or damaged. No voltage through it when the solenoid is energized. Can I remove the solenoid without taking the starter off? If so, how does it come apart? Is there a website that would show the internals of the solenoid? It has done this before but usually works after trying the switch 3 or 4 times. Thanks.

Yes, the solenoid housing can be readily removed leaving the plunger behind. Not much to them, just keep track of the parts. The contact points (bolts) can be replaced individually or as an assembly. The good quality 24v units will have silver inlays on the contacts, the junk versions don't. Repair kits or complete solenoids are readily available. Just google 40MT starter parts.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
