I was given a D318 power unit that came out a marion crane. It is 5V18414. I also have a D69U with a D318. This unit is not seized but hasn't run in at least 20yrs. Is it worth keeping around or should I just scrap it? What is interchangable with my 9U's engine? It has what looks to be a compressor mounted on it, and a rockford transmission. What do you think?

Not directly interchangable with the tractor. Main difference is the industrial engine has a different oil pan and two section oil pump vs three section on the tractors. Other than that, most if not all parts are interchangeable so basic engine could be converted with good 9U parts.
Unless it is underfoot I'd say keep it as your in it for the right price.

Nice crane. I would save that engine, just keep it out of the weather and turn it over occasionally. Even if you don't use it, it might be good trading material for something.

I'm back to thinking about what to do with this old D318. Is there a generator head available for it? Is it worth trying to make a generator out of? How big? Anybody have any generator parts for it? thanks.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
