Recently I have been spending a lot of time with a D 2 5U 8267. It is a pretty fair tractor but one problem I have is that the Starter Pinion Control Lever has to be held in place while starting the diesel engine. This is not much of a problem when starting the diesel engine, but when it comes to priming the fuel system, especially the vent valves on the fuel injection pump, a third hand is needed. What is the fix for this?
And speaking of vent valves on the fuel injection pump, does anyone know where I can buy the wrench that will loosen the forward 2 vents? The back two I can handle, but the forward two must require a special gizmo.
Thanks in advance,
Dogger

pinion or latches could be loose---latch release can be adjusted but if latches worn has to be replaced

Caterpillar still has a Socket available that fits a 1/4" drive ratchet to fit the bleeder screws. A Thread was posted on this subject in the past. I remember various tool part numbers appeared in that Thread. If I have time to look it up later and copy it here I will.

also to bleed the system cut an old inner tube with valve stem and clamp over fuel tank neck--pressurize to about 5 psi and it will push fuel and air out thru the system

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
