Thanks for the replies to my Sept 29 post, D 2 Fuel Filter Drain What worked for me was compressed air, bailing wire ( As recommended ) plus acetone. Thanks.
My next project is stopping a lubricating oil leak on the bottom of the fuel injection pump. This leak is bad enough if I don't fix now it I know I will regret it. First I will replace the gaskets on the hour meter and on the cover on the bottom of the pump. If this does not stop the leak and I have to remove the fuel injection pump from the engine to replace seals in the pump, how do I make sure the timing sequence between the injection pump and the engine is maintained? The Servicemen's Reference Book does not discuss this as far as I can tell. What do I need to know to not screw up this timing?
Thanks for your help,
Dogger
Dogger, the pump is driven by an off-center tang, so it only goes in one way - you won't screw it up
If....the pump doesnt get rotated, I like to set the timing mark on #1 tdc, the front pump lifter should be up. The timing cover is on the right hand side on the front of the flywheel housing. There is an X on the pump drive shaft on one of the tangs, that should match up with the one on the inj. pump cam shaft.
