.Mostly only see the rubber tracks fitted around here.I wonder what the measurements of those rails are.
100 plus hp the top end of the range I'm told,do they get the power to the ground better then the rubber track?

I'm no where near an expert, but I'm told that they like steel tracks better when these go to the woods. They equip them with front mounted shredders for brush clearing work.

Just what I've been told, could be totally wrong.

How does one adjust the chain tension on that rig?

I'd guess hydraulic adjuster on the front idler, just like the big boys.

There is a grease cylinder/ recoil assembly. A grease gun is used to pump grease into the cylinder to set the track tension

The steel track machines are used in mulching applications. Unless you are doing that type of work they are probably overkill. You also lose the 2spd option with the steel tracks.

ok,that would be a deal breaker loosing the two speed option so thanks for the input. What sort of hours do they get out of steel tracks?.At 100hp I assume they would spin the track easy enough!

Makes sense - I couldn't see any movable parts from that photo angle.

I suspect that steel tracks will gain in popularity just as full-time undercarriage rubber tracks became preferred to the over-the-tire tracks on skidsteers. What is the cost of this steel track system compared to a rubber track system? I wonder how the total life costs of steel tracks compare to rubber tracks. Might the steel tracks actually be less costly on that basis?

One benefit of rubber tracks is that they cause less damage to finished surfaces. This is very important to some users, but the more robust, longer life of steel tracks may be a more important attribute to other users.

It is interesting that this compact “Traxcavator” has come about by upward evolution of the skidsteer rather than downsizing the larger steel track loaders.

The lack of two-speed could just be a different valve or some kind of lockout - manufacturers like parts commonality

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
