No surprise... I found my front draw bar mount is cracked/ broken. When I look in the parts book I seem to see it is a seperate piece, leading me to think I can remove it to make repairs. But when I look at it on the D6, it appears to be part of the main case? Did someone make it "special" ?

Assuming I want to try, what are suggestions for welding this ?

V the crack, clean as good as I can, use a stick and 7018 Rod ?? Need to preheat ?
If it came off the would be a lot easier to weld.

Thanks expurts
You can see the crack below the left, lower bolt.

The draw bar mounting bracket is part of the main case. Good news is that the case is fabricated steel so normal welding with 7018 is possible.

Hi, TOGNOT.
I would have thought, based on past observations of D4s and D6s, that the drawbar pull point bolts to the bottom of the transmission case and the belly pan bolts to the drawbar pull point. Also, I suspect that the 'ackshull' pull point will be cast steel. IF I am right, that crack would be in the belly pan rather than the drawbar pull point.

Thanks guys. I'll get under there with pressure washer and wire brushes and grinders etc etc.

Wow if it was a belly pan crack - what a lucky break !

So, did you happen to take a photo of it all cleaned up? Sure would be nice to see that.

Hi, Keloz.
Do we have some differing ideas of parts names here? To me, the 'case' refers to the transmission case, to the bottom of which I understand the drawbar pull point/drawbar pivot is bolted. It appears to me that the crack in question is in what I would call the 'belly pan' or 'belly plate', which I believe is not a part of either the transmission case or the drawbar pull point/drawbar pivot and which can be un-bolted and moved to a more favorable position for repair.

I think everyone is correct, I have attached a parts book picture . The broken piece, like mr magnet stated, and others, is part of the case. That is not shown in the pic.

Bolted to the broken piece is # 787178 bracket. Deas, the belly pan does bolt to the front of #787178 bracket.

The bolts shown on the bracket attach the bracket to the case. I think the proper repair will be :
Remove the bracket to gain access to the front and back of the (cracked) mount. I can then weld it from both sides, grind it flush and install new bolts, lock washers, nuts and thread locker.

A few bolts are loose, one is missing, so this likely caused the failure ( along with 65 years of abuse)

That's a fairly common problem on the D6's. Usually starts when bolts get loose and hog out the mounting holes. That's a tough spot to keep track of and even more inconvenient to get at to tighten. Had to get a swivel socket for my impact gun to do mine.

Hi Deas how are you that piece with the crack in it is welded to the case, the bracket goes on the front of that in which the draw bar pivots it pulls against the cracked plate so the bolts dont have any strain when pulling the belly gard bolts to yhe deawbar pivot bracket, drop in on your way back from alloura and you can see what i mean take care mate
