I currently have A D6C 47J-4744, I like my machine however I’ve been made a good offer. For farm cleanup the D6C has been great other than the noise, I wear earplugs and a ANR shooting headset, still loud.
What’s your opinions on a upgrade? What’s your favorite farm Dozer?
One of my concerns is continuous breakdowns as some of you know my current issue is with a transmission line and having to drop the pans.
Thoughts on the D6D, D5B?
Thanks for your inputs.
I must disclose that several respected mechanics and operators have seen and operated my D6C and they all say it’s a well maintained, strong Dozer, maybe I should just keep it??

D6D is an updated D6C with a few more horses while the D5 was developed from the D6B and is a much lighter machine, very popular with farmers. Personally, I wouldn't let dropping the belly guards put me off, that branch guard fitted plus a pull lift will make it quite easy to get the front one off, I doubt if you will need to remove the rear one to work on the forward section of the cooler lines.

i have owned both of the machines that you mention. and as a farm dozer and if you are happy with and have a good dependable d6c then would just keep what i have. now on the other hand a step up to a D7 might be different. especially if your d6c is a good one then you could gain some capitol towards a d7 purchase.

Nothing wrong with what you have, the 3306 engine is one of the best. The only advantage to the D6D is they eventually got rid of that goofy two stage air/water oil transmission cooling. Got to expect to do some work/maintenance on any of them.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
