G'day Everyone,

I was talking with some mates last night, and my RD4 came up in conversation. Specifically what colours I was going to paint it. The outcry, not from me, was "Not another yellow thing". Someone then suggested I paint it Burnt Orange, with flames down the sides. :heh:

Personally, I saw the funny side, too, of a machine that does 5mph flat out, painted with flames like a hot rod. Now I have to admit to thinking this may actually be a great idea. Something different. :flame:

When I was a teen, I painted flames on the bonnet and doors to my uncles old (1940's) Bedford truck. It did 30mph flat out, down hill. (The trials of which is another story.) I then proceeded to bet my uncle that he wouldn't drive it to Perth with the next load of spuds to market. It was the best spent $50 of my life. 😊 My cousin and I had a great time trying to keep a track of the number of vehicles that we had backed up behind us on Albany highway at any one time. The most we were able to count was 37 in the hilly country where overtaking wasn't easy, but the hills and curves kept us from an accurate count. My mates all saw the truck, and I think some payback was being offered.

So I suppose my question is.....

Has anyone got any photo's of incorrectly painted Cat' tractors? Am I correct in assuming that the most outlandish, or comical, paintjob, involved an error of shade or the decal being 3/8" out of place?

The reality is that I will, in all probability, paint it the correct colour. But my inspiration for that, is Sasquatches D2. I keep going back to the pictures he posted off before, after and at work. And the best bit is that he puts it out to work. 😊

Cheers,

Phill.

its your cat, paint it any colour you want, the roadworks companies here used to be required to paint everything safety orange, this was before all the companies painted there stuff yellow, now all the snow plows and road maintenance stuff is highway yellow, even there pickups are that colour.

there are some guys in Holland that painted two d2s white green and black to match their company colours for a company celebration, they look pretty sharp.

lots of fires have a yellow flame, why not paint it yellow and put red flames on it?

Phill, there used to be a trucking company in Perth that painted all their trucks pink. I trust you didn't have something outrageous in mind? 😎
We used to paint our Cats "Golden Yellow", a colour produced by Wattyl, the local paint supplier. Wattyl actually had 6 different shades of yellow that were all close to Golden Yellow.
It wasn't genuine Cat Highway Yellow, but it was close enough for us, and we reckoned it was a richer, more pleasant yellow than the genuine Cat colour.

When Cat released the new Cat Ten on Sept 1, 1928, the very first production model that was put on display all over the U.S. and the U.K., was painted white!

Cheers, Ron.

Hi, Rax200.
Given where Newbie is located, I suspect the W.C. Eagles colours would be more acceptable - - - for BOTH of us - as if my preference might count.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
