All,

I am new at this restoration work so bear with me. The tractor PV 7207 was run before I got it with the bearing broken in the Release Bearing Cage causing the cage V-144 to ware unevenly behind the outer bearing race. I am thinking of having thermal spraying done followed by machining to restore this part. Has anyone done something like this before? Also, in trying to replace the bearing 184099, the closest bearing I can find is made by Timken and the outer race is a few thousanths less in diameter than the old bearing. It is not a ball but roller however, the bearing guys said the roller would work and he could not supply a ball unit. I would have the spraying technique build up this area and again machined down to fit the new Timken bearing. Does this sound reasonable to pursure? I have not checked with the local Cat dealer to see if any of these parts are available yet but seriously doubt that they would have them. It this pretty much the picture of getting parts for an 81 year old tractor?

Finally, I's love to hear from anyone who might have a parts tractor out there that would have any of these parts.

I also figure to have a local clutch shop reface the drive plate and they can probably replace the lining on the clutch brake assembly V-407.

Thoughts and comments are appreciated- Jan

or if you have a normal / original size ball bearing can you not tig weld it in the old casing or brass weld it in? saves you a lot of money.

Hi Janmeermans,
my old books tell me that the 1B4099 is also a New Departure Bearing 20209
I do not think a roller bearing is suitable for the clutch release application due to the side loadings. (I stand to be corrected)
As MARCOTEN suggests if you cannot get a bearing of the correct dimensions you could sleeve or weld up and machine to size your release housing.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Eddie,

I ordered using your part number at the following site- http://www.locateballbearings.com/. When it comes we'll see how it matches the old bearing. Thank you very much for the help on this!- Jan
