I would like to check the high and low idle rpm's. I have a digital tach and the tape to mark with for reading. How and where is the best place to do this and what kind of conversion would I need to use to figure. I know the service manual shows using a dial type tach at the hour meter .

Thanks

Can you get to the crankshaft front pulley relatively easy?
OR
How about opening the clutch cover on the floor board to access the driveshaft to the transmission?
Either place wouldn't require a math conversion.

Front crank pulley will be just fine.

I have a old hand held Stewart Warner so I thought everybody did.lol My dad was not a mechanic or tool guy,but did custom harvesting back in the day when the customer was right.

If you read rpm at the hour meter it is half engine speed,on a Cat 318 as in the 9u D6.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
