Ive got some D7 rails that i was thinking of making a drag out of. Maybe a 6" pipe in the front then loop them behind it. What have you guys done.

Ive got a Large Railroad iron drag with truck tires but they dont carry much dirt and they dont cut much they just drag over stuff. I felt like the rails would cut the ground more. This if for pulling behind a big tractor after clearing.

Any pics of what you guys have built.

I think so i may even double it.

1 6" pipe then a loop of rails then tie onto that and run another loop out longer behind it so there will be 2 loops of rails dragging behind.

Just have to try different things until you get the amount of leveling or dirt movement you want.

Depending I have used 3 railroad tracks one behind the other,as well as 3 very heavy 9 inch pipes (high pressure gas line 3/8 wall),as well as 2 pieces I beam one behind the other.

Other things speed leveling of disturbed soil from digging rocks have used field cultivator and chisel plows.

A year ago I chisel plowed where a walnut trees were removed to plant grapes. They ripped after trees were pushed, and hand picked some bigger roots after root raking. The chisel moved dirt to help fill stump holes, and brought more roots up,which needed to be. Should of been drag with something but a rainy spring and impatient property owner, it did not happen.

A drag that worked for one job not so good on another. Generally everything is steep around here, which in some case help.

The drag we built to pull over clearing was a piece of I beam with a cat rail looped behind. Every second pin on the rail was driven out so as to only be held by one side of the rail. The idea being the protruding pins would flip wood to the surface. Now I use it turned over the other way up for smoothing out roads in the fields. A lot of drags in this part of the world built in a similar fashion.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
