Chain Coulpler cover

I have a d4 6u with a LaPlant Choate front mount hydraulic pump . It’s got a chain coupler between the pump and the engine with a cover that’s made of leather. Mine is somewhat coming apart and making a dirt trap. I was wondering what others have came up with to replace the cover and possibly keep sort of lubricant in it?

So, I take it that leaving it without a cover is what others are doing.

Interesting - I don't think I've seen a chain coupler with a cover. I'd expect the way to go is to either have a cover in good order that really does seal out the crud, or not have a cover at all for the reason that you highlighted above - it catches crud. I could also imagine that a 3D-printed cover (two identical halves) could be an option

I have an old 1960's swather that used chain couplings to drive each wheel. One inch shaft it has tin covers. Imagin a saucer for a coffee cup with just more height to make room for the sprocket hub on the shaft. Not a compete seal by an means, but a saucer on each side held together with 3 1/4 in bolts. There is a grease fitting. No seal on the shaft. I think it is more to keep tail thick hay from catching on the set screws than to keep dirt out. Not the same level of dust blowing around as a dozer could cause. The shafts don't show any wear from the tin lip floating around them.

As the chain is used to join the two shafts together and is not moving it will not wear out or need lubricating. Any kind of cover to keep dirt out should work as it doesn’t need to keep oil or grease in.

I have the family heirloom 1952 744D Massey Harris with the same chain drive on the main clutch output shaft to the gearbox input no cover, was used for mostly wood logging or flat belt saw bench, I changed only as the chain after 60plus years had movement in the chain links, drive sockets are still very good and went back in
