What kind of cement should be used on the washers and gaskets and bellows seals in a D6 9U final drive? Thanks

The cement to use on the cork seals on the bellow seals is Cat number 5H2471 contact cement. You coat both surfaces & let dry for a minute & then press them together. It is a contact cement so make sure things are lined up when you put them together. It works great to cement & hold any gasket in place as we used it for every gasket where we wanted to hold it in place at the dealer on equip. & engines.

Thank you both for the reply. I'll get some Cat cement for the job. I'm also getting new washers and gaskets. The seal that goes on the bellows,3B3383, doesn't seem to be available or at least I can't seem to find any. The one that was on the bellows seems ok but it was unglued. I'm skeptical if the cement will work on a used seal that of course is oily. Am I correct? Is there a source for a new seal or can I make one? How thick are they suppose to be? Thanks

You are correct, cement will not work on oil soaked seal.
Do a parts search on www.machinerytrader.com several vendors have them listed.
Grainger Tractor lists four of them....they are always good to deal with.
They are a cork or a cork/rubber material and could be made if you have to. Not sure on the thickness, don't remember, somewhere around 3/16 in I believe.

Yes OM & Rick the cement won,t stick to oil soaked gaskets but only new material. The material is not a cheap cork material but a composition of something with cork & also Rick when you get the right material make sure you clean the suface where the gasket cements to is cleaned down to clean bare metal. It would be best to find the ready made ones from a vendor so it would be correct material & not just trying to make them from some old cheap material as they take a beating with the pressure against them.

And be SURE to clean out the dowel holes GOOD so the bellows sits good on it's rubber gasket. I don't think the rubber gasket at back was ever glued, just the cork ring that wears on the washer.

Never did get the serial no. on this tractor but if its the early model all metal bellows there were no rubber parts. Takes 2-6B330 gaskets and 2-3B3383 seals ( 1 for each bellows assy) plus 2-6B6020 gaskets per side.

You can get the cork seals from Olsons gaskets, I have heard of people using leather also

Getting fresh stock from Olson's is a good idea. I have seen some new old stock ones that were so dry a brittle they practically disintegrated in your hand.

Thanks for all the advice and tips. I sure appreciate it. This tractor had bellows with the rubber gaskets on the backside. I called Olson about the 3B3383 seals and I'm waiting to hear back from them. Is there a substitute cement that I can buy at NAPA. Our nearest CAT dealer is about 80 miles away. I suppose they would ship it to me for a few extra bucks. If NAPA has anything that would equal Cats cement it would be more convenient. Thanks, Rick.
