I have a D7 3T that has the cooler disconnected it would appear that both the pipes have bean squashed and crimped over and soldered up I have asked is there something else that is done inside the filter housing
the reply was always NAH JUST BLANKEM OFF SHE'LL BE RIGHT AND IT WONT GET HOT
So I dont know if there is any big difference with the cooler or not I have being told that with todays oil the cooler is no longer required I really dont know though
I am currently fitting a nose cone ect off a 17A on mine and it has the oil cooler and I will connect it back up so time will tell for me

ok Paul thanks. my old man also says it will be fine to just get rid of the cooler so I think im going to fit a copper pipe from the supply and back round to the return and hopefully my oil pressure wont drop if she gets too hot. it just seems a disaster waiting to happen with these old original coolers that are wafer thin especially if your at a show with your cat and it dumps its oil without you really noticing.

Hi Jordan,
someone did this loop on a machine model that I cannot recall.
They made the bypass loop with copper plumbing fittings--looks like Yorkshire to me--with a show machine I do not think you will have any oil overheat problems in England.
Doing it this way you do not have to worry about any alterations to any of the bypass valves etc in the filter housing.

Cheers,
Eddie B.

Hello Jordan, when the radiator ( and oil cooler) was stollen out of my 7M, I just looped a piece of 3/4" oil hose over the fittings. The ends on the line act like hose barbs, didn't leak a drop. There was no effect on oil pressure. A couple hours in the field harrowing made little heat in the oil (it was a cool day). I have since found an oil cooler and installed it. With the grill installed you really couldn't see the hose loop.

you could also look out for a filter base that does not have the bypass. I fitted later model D47U filter base to my D25U and it worked a treat.
Not sure if they are the same for a D7 tho - but again you could source a later model d7 base and do the same and it looks a lot neater.

Otherwise just short circuit the system.

Ok thanks Bruce,

so its not really very high pressure if it didn't blow off? we are having some flexi hydraulic hose made up with male fittings on both ends but we are struggeling to identify the femal thread type on the flow and return pipes as we have measured it but it falls between an american style thread and britsh style? with 5/8 BSP 14 threads per inch being the closest? if this does not work we was just going to push rubber pipe over both pipes and put a decent hose clamp either side and pray for no leaks!

Easiest way is to get a couple of O-ring faces seal plugs.
They are 5/8" dash 10 1"-14 tpi straight thread.
Remove the face o-ring and stretch an o-ring over the threads along with thread sealant.
Remove the oil cooler bypass plunger and spring.

So if mine has been blocked off at each pipe would I expect to find the bypass plunger and spring removed ???????

it would be best that it is. if it ain't, then its having to open and bypass, do its designed job as if the is line accidentally stopped up or kinked. so if u r going to stop flow through the line on purpose then go ahead and remove the bypass parts so it doesn't stop working for any unknown reason. good luck with ur projects.

I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
