Hello ACMOC Members:
I'm trying to repair a radiator component on a Caterpillar D2 (3J series) tractor. The component is a P/N 5B9375 PIPE, an alternate source has suggested that this part has been superseded by P/N 8B9316. The assembly consists of a drain valve (possibly made of copper) and a elbow shaped steel tube that has been soldered into place. My tube is corroded and damaged perhaps beyond repair. I'd like to replace the tube and was wondering if any members have made this kind of repair to salvage the part. The valve portion of this assembly has this part number: 4B7742. I'll try to attach some pictures to describe the part and thanks for your help. David.

Do you have a hydraulics component supplier [Parker, etc] in the area? They can bend a piece of hyd tubing and braze it in for you. Gary

Looks like the tubing may be a standard long sweep ell. I wonder if a good plumbing supply might have a copper one that could be silver brazed into that fitting. On the other hand some regular old flux coated brazing rods will work wonders if there's a skeleton of steel left to work with.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

Interesting. I have two D2 3J's out back and the same part on both appears to be one piece, while yours looks to be assembled or fabricated from different materials.

Florin Tractor PH#(916)383-0317 in Sacramento CA, shows that they have 7 8B9316 pipe assemblies. Ray's used Equipment PH#(940)825-3191 shows he has 1 5B9375 pipe assembly. All should work for your application.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
