Rare birds! There is an AG6 near me (closer to Mr. CTSnowfighter) by the Sacramento river; The "font" closest that I believe, is "bold extended Eurostyle". It would be a stretch to find the decals, let alone much of anything except engine parts for them. I wonder how much of the Challenger 65 parts would mesh with them?
There is an unused AG4 in Stockton, CA that a friend of a friend has, even more unique than one of the 6's.
That almost looks like the rolling ground east of Turlock...just taking a wild guess...Nice pics!
What are you going to plant? JM
Just happened to have a couple of pictures of 17AFarmer tractor and hired man![]()
Boy, you'd want a/c in that cab wouldn't you. Six speeds forward and six in reverse - is that a standard D6 transmission? Reason I ask is I think some tractors (other models) have higher gears blocked in reverse
An AG6 has 5 gears ,some had 1st blocked out mine has 6th blocked which I like if for no other reason you Need 1st for loading on a lowboy. 4th is a nice gear for lighter work disking etc. 5th is too fast for anything would be hard on the tractor. And yes it is a D6C-D6D transmission as far as how many gears in reverse I don’t know I only use low gear
Thank you each for your responses and information. I appreciate it all. An unused or new AG4? That I would like to see! I had heard about the AG4 and even have a couple of pictures saved from the internet of one. We are located in Southeast WA near Tri-Cities which is where those pictures were taken. The ground we are working will go back into orchard. Both of our tractors came from the dry land wheat country in Northeast OR. There are several AG6’s here in the PNW. I know of 4 more in addition to ours within 60 mile radius of us. They are indeed a stretched D6D. Were finding parts availability is not to bad if your after the standard D6D parts, but the AG6 specific stuff is pretty much not available through cat. Both of ours came with the standard D6D-SA six speed transmissions. I do have all the books (service, parts, operators manul) so this helps a lot. I realize it was a long shot asking for some of the shifter parts but figured one never knows unless you ask! Ours are serial numbers 05X01257 and 05X01291 according the dealer they were made about 11 days apart in late 1985 but I wonder if that’s just when the serial numbers were issued?
I know that the tractors were built by the Egging Company in Gurley NE which was Cat’s custom shop at the time. Keep the info and pictures coming it helps us all! Thanks again!
Here is a D6D 05X01092 that I've had a lot of seat time on for comparrison. This tractor is variable horsepower.VHP.![]()
I could never find out for sure if the Egging Co. was the one that did the conversions or not I did know they were doing a lot of work for Cat at the time. I wanted to tell you You need to keep an eye on the driveshaft and keep it greased I had to clean up the results of one coming apart not pretty! 17afarmer
Lets go for a ride with Mike AKA 17AFarmer in his AG6 tractor
