I had a thin copper pipe going from the elbow above the water pump to the head next to the thermostat. I have given up trying to find the correct size copper tube and I am going to remove the elbow shown in the photo and try and get a hose nipple instead. I would like to know what thread the elbow is into the head?

Can anyone help?

Hello waltini
The thread type will be NPT. The tube size is 1/4". Make sure you ask for tube and not pipe as they are measured differently. I replaced mine on my D330 with stainless sourced from a hydraulic shop. They should also be able to supply new olives (ferrules) as well.

Regards

Phil

Thanks Phil,

I have been to five different shops looking for the tube here in Sydney Australia, hydraulic gas and air con, with no luck. I will try for a npt hose nipple and get a rubber hose to get around the problem, thanks for the info.

The olives are readily available from your Cat dealer but any hydraulic shop should be able to get them. Blackwoods are another option and they should have them. There are several sellers on ebay.com.au with them for sale. They may not look exactly like the old ones but they will still work. I think my local hydraulic shop is an agent for BSC and that is most likely where the olives came from.

hi Team,
Cat and no doubt other places sell the nut which comes with the olive attached--P/No 1F1344--and fits a 1/4" tube, as said above.
Cat would also sell you a piece of bulk copper tube as well, 1/4" = 5P1198, sold by the CM.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Hi Mike,
that is disappointing to hear about the nut-olive not being available anymore.
I guess now they are making us buy the fitting as a complete unit just to get a nut and olive--less inventory, for in their eyes, a cheap item.
Reece's may have the olives too.

Cheers,
Eddie B

You should also be able to get the tube and olive from an auto store such as Auto-one, Repco or Supercheap Auto. You most likely won't get the fitting there though as most Aus stuff is BSP and not NPT.

The larger nut and olive to suit 1/2" tube is still available as I purchased one last month. Maybe it has new number.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
