Hi guys, I was wondering if the short shaft that runs between the 2 gear boxes on the front of the grader for the circle reverse will interchange between a 212 and a N0. 12. Mine either broke or a pin fell out and it fell off or something today while working on some field work and I drove around in the pickup for an hour looking with no luck. I am pretty sure it is in the ditch I am filling but I am taking a metal detector tomorrow to see if I can find it. If I can't I have a friend with a 212 I can get the part off of if it will interchange. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks again guys and hope everyone has a very merry Christmas.

Also my buddy that has the 212 owns a scrap yard and has 4 very old blades if anyone is interested. He has a 212 9T sp, another one with a 2k sp serial number, and a n0. 10 or 11 I believe is what it is. Also another brand that is a tractor with the front end replaced with a grader front end or something.

Sorry, I don't have parts books for those graders but I thought all the "length" was just square shafting. Maybe you are missing some yokes as well? I think it is very likely the yokes would interchange.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

Hi, D2cody.
Like CCJersey, I don't have the parts books for either machine. How-wevver, I think it would be a fairly safe bet that the relevant shafts would not interchange 'cos the 212 is a rather smaller machine than the 12. It is more likely that the shaft from a 112 would fit as the 112 was basically a 4-cylinder version of the 12.

If my memory serves me 'key-wrecked-ly', that shaft is a solid round bar with 2 tags set at 180 degrees from each other on each end - shouldn't be hard to make a replacement if you have some good round bar stock and a welder handy. As CCJersey mentioned, there are yokes on the gearboxes at each end which fit over the shaft and engage the tags. Make sure they are still present 'cos I suspect that at least one of them would hafta come loose to allow the shaft to fall out.

Just my 0.02..

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Thanks for the info boys. I believe you are correct about the sizes being different so they won't probably interchange. The 2 yokes are both still in place so I am guessing a snap ring or pin must have fallen out or something allowing it to fall so I will probably will weld a new piece up if I can't find the old one with the metal detector. Also I think I am going to make some sort of bolt on expanded steel basket underneath of it I can bolt on or something in case it ever happens again it will catch it plus it would make a nice place to keep oil and a small tool box possibly. Thanks again for all the help.

Hi, D2 Cody.
Happy hunting with the metal detector. I like the idea of the basket or tray under that link - "Fall out now, yer rotten mongrel." LOL.

I seem to remember that those yokes are held in place by pins with snap rings over them to stop the pins falling out.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
