Hello everyone, my cat 20 has a problem, when the master clutch is released or dis-engaged, the linkages on the throwout bearing are going over center and jams the bearing from pivoting foward to re-engage against the pressure plate. Any info would help, thanks.

Hi d2steph,
welcome to the BB.
Alas, to help you further we need a Serial Number as there are two models of Twenty Tractor.
The Small Twenty has a side valve engine and the Large Twenty has an overhead valve engine.

They can also be known as the Big Twenty starting at S/no's L1-up or PL1-up or the Small Twenty S/no's 8C1-up.

Main problem could be that there is too much clearance to where the clutch brake becomes effective--this would allow over travel of the release mechanism before the clutch brake engages, this action stops over travelling such as you describe.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Your are on point with the problem, it is a big twenty, #PL639 i can see that there to much travel. the clutch brake is still good but i think the main clutch is worn . it is about 1/8 inch thick

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
