I want to verify the serial number, has L187 on seat rear. Cannot find a number on the engine or trans top. Looking at trans pic can someone explain where I should be looking? The hood is interesting, adds at least 10hp. Is it factory or shop made?

Thanks,
David

There is a serial number stamped at the edge of the rectangle plate over the steering clutch adjustments, between the seat and steering clutch levers. sitting in the seat it will be on the top left side of the cover plate stamped in the cast housing.

In my opinion, the hood looks to be custom-made and not factory. I have never seen one like it.

Steve is correct on the stamping location.

I know nothing about serial numbers on gas Cats, but that hood just has to have a story to tell.

But the chances to find that story cannot be good.

I know if you find the story it will be very bland.

Has the seat back been bobbed off, seems mine is much higher than that.

I forgot to add, thanks for the info. I will go look again over the weekend for the s/n. It seems to be a nice running machine. I plan to pull the pan and check the bearing clearances over the winter and I will soon be on the "for sale" forum looking for parts. I will post further pics of what I find.

Reading this thread prompted me to look at my twenty. Ser No is between the two grease nipples for steering clutches on mine, a little to the right of center.
Also realised I am missing the brass tag on the steering clutch adjuster cover. Anyone know of reproductions available.
cheers WF
