Asking for some tech serial number help in dating this tractor. No tags anywhere.

Has wavy Cat brand spiral wound tube radiator. Original tiller style steering clutch levers have been cut off and upgraded? with pull type.

#576 stamped in extreme top rear of transmission case.

#7 15 4 24 stamped below engine part number at upper rear r.h. block, close to #4 jug.

Number 3 cyl. jug has EM date code, replacement. Others have no part numbers.

Hope that's not to confusing. Nothing here matches Cat Tractor serial number book. There may be nuances that I am not aware of in casting of parts design that may help date.

Any help appreciated, I know there are Best/Cat Thirty gurus out there.

Thanks to CriscoKid for getting me started in the right direction-

Thanks for the reply,

Have more pics below. Manifolds are excellent, later style. A possible aftermarket kit for heat valve with double pipe exhaust. Doesn't look homemade. No tag under inspection cover. Rivets are still there. Stamped steel rocker cover.

I believe I am at an end here. Removed fuel tank this morning hoping for a number under the front bracket, no go.

So must be 1926/1927 as to parts, tube rad and small track adj. The manifolds look exceptional and I think were changed out later in life.

The 576 # may be in 1927. No way to verify. 😞

Thanks to everyone for their time and replies.

Without a couple of more pictures you are somewhere between the end of the BEST tractor production and tractor # S4683. A picture of the top of the radiator and one of the side of the trani case between the fender and the engine along the row of bolts that holds the top on would help.
Thanks

OK if there are 2 rivets on the tub below the inspection cover that would have been a tractor number probably a Best that is a later manifold with some kind of home made heat box this should have had the "snake pit " type of manifold i am thinking possibly a 1925 or transition machine is there a carburetor? thanks for the comment on the stamp collection

More pics, some redundant. Radiator seems to be built up of both Best and Cat parts. Top rad tube early. There WAS a tag below middle inspection cover. No mounting blocks on side of trans case, has slot with studs in rear of case, for canopy? Here for inspection, for those more knowledgeable than me.

Your no 576 I believe has to due with assembly. I found a 3 digit no. on my best 30 on top of the rear case, and the same no painted on the ring gear cover inside of the steering clutch area.

Your tractor is a San Leandro tractor made before tractor number S4683. Tractor S4683 was the tractor when the top seat because standard. All PS tractors were built after the change to top seat as standard. In picture three if you look at the top of the radiator top tank there are no bosses cast into it to attach the top seat canopy brackets. In pictures 7-9 the main trani. case does not have the bosses it needs to attach the top seat fenders. There is a difference in the main trani. case under the top cover also but the top cover needs to come off to see it well. In picture 5 is the remains of your serial number plate. Your carrier roller brackets are the earlier type also, the part number on them stayed the same but the design changed over time. I have S4647 in my shop in pieces and it has neither the bosses on the radiator top tank or the ones on the main trani case.
Thanks

Thanks Ken, Super info, helps me a bunch. Then this would be a 1925 or 1926 S series? According to SN reference manual.

Could you get a picture of your trans case, inside? I believe this machine did have a canopy. Which is different than top seat style. Would make sense if it was Cal. built.

Probably as close as I can get without the actual brass tag.

Thanks to all for their time and input!

I was going to try and get a few pictures last night but did not get to it. Tonight is not looking to good either. Keep bugging me about the pictures until I remember. Later PS tractors has the serial number stamped in the castings in a couple of locations. One was on the flat spot in back of cylinder jug #4 on the crankcase and the other on top seat tractors was on the trani cover casting between the seat and the gear shift casting. The latter will not work on your tractor and I do not remember seeing the number stamped on the crankcase of early Cat S tractors. I have not cleaned my tractor so it might be hiding in a different location. I believe my tractor had a canopy on it also. I have a Rankin canopy on the shelf waiting for when I get to it. It looks like your tractor has had the air cleaner relocation kit put on it.
