CAT TEN: What color?

Brewzer - key word in you question - "WERE". To quote so many on this site "running when parked". If we have any idea of JM's intentions, it will be running before it reaches the paint booth! He has a pretty good track record with his purchases, they seem to be good machines. - cts

Here is what I have seen first hand. My Ten is a 1929. All summer I have been removing 13 coats of old yellow paint. On the radiator shell I got down to the hardest gray paint on the planet. I have also found it under most of the parts that were removed for repairs. So the tractor was gray. When I stripped the grille I found the trim was black under the yellow and over the gray. Just the vertical bars. The rim of the grill was gray.I also found traces of black in the tight spots around the letters. My findings still are not 100% proof because I have not owned the tractor since 1929 to know the true history. All in all I do wonder if they started out gray with red trim then went to black trim on the cats when they went yellow. I think a yellow cat with red trim might look odd. But then again I found a pic of a green Ten.

Hi Wally. That is my preference. The previous owner "had" it running a decade ago, or so he said. Getting my "first" TEN so close and reasonable, how could a cheapskate such as myself say no? I am sure another and another will come up for sale. I had to start somewhere!

I think it took me 26 D4 Caterpillars before I finally have a couple of nice ones. Same thing with D2s, several before I struck precious metal. So, it is safe to say this will be the first TEN, and let's see how many before I am satisfied. Hmmm, high crop...wide gauge LOL.
