Hi Guys,
How are Cat hydraulic fittings removed from hoses? are they re-usable? I have a few to change and am unsure how to remove the fittings. Cheers, John

If they are the old Anchor clam shell two bolt style then just unbolt and do your best to remove the old hose/concrete hard without ruining the barbs. Re-assemble with new hose. Did Cat ever use the re-usable screw on fittings? , Got a pic? No telling what is on an old machine after so many years.

I've found the most painless way is heat and burn the outer of the braid the get the wire glowing
and pry and pull it of the barb , or very carefully grind thru the wire without touching the barb , I prefer the heat way , can't beat the smell of burning rubber :flame:

If you are referring to the later type press fittings, the easiest way is to take them to your Cat Dealer (William Adams), they have the special press and tooling to press the fitting apart and fit the new hose and press the outer collar back on.

I know some have gone to a lot of trouble to do it themselves in various ways, I could never be bothered, it all seamed lot of work.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
