Caterpillar. It's a big company. But its success comes from the people who call it home. People who take on challenging tasks. People interested in the way the world works, with ideas about making it work better. People who make progress possible for customers and communities around the world. They all have stories. This is one of them.
A great Video very nice.

Well done ROME/KG, that must have been pretty cool to get the call up with your 75 for it, can you tell us a little about how it came about etc? Just be good to hear some Cat stuff on the BB for a change of pace compared to a couple other threads ATM.

Great video, makes one wonder if our society and system of government will evolve in a way that will permit another another 100 years of progress.

Thank You Gavin!
Well it started right here on the board, Cat was looking for a mid 1930's tractor for there film in the Tenn. area, I sent some photos of my tractor to them and they agreed it would be a great tractor for the film and asked if I would be willing to haul it there, I agreed as they were going to compensate for the hauling. They asked if I was bringing the 12' Rome disk I was pulling in the photo I sent and said no as it was way too wide to haul that distance so they said the farmer at the filming sight had a disk so I said that would work great when we showed up and here was this little three bottom disk plow! I laughed and said to myself "you've got to be kidding!" (This plow is actually in the film with me looking like I'm working on it) so I talked the to the owner of the farm and asked if he had a large offset disk he said "oh ya! just up over on the hill here" so we went and looked at it and it was perfect for behind the 75, we just had to remove the axle with wheels because it wouldn't look right for that era. We tried a few rounds with it and worked great (of coarse only left-hand turns lol) The actor Danny Vincent stalled it out a few times till he got used to the clutch and other controls lol but it all turned out pretty nice. Thanks Gary

Thanks Gary, now right there is what i would consider a great story for the magazine, i am sure it would be a neat read for the members with all sorts of finer details added in. I am sure we could get both your story and cats side of it with what they wanted to achieve from the video.

Cat has a great history and makes good products. It was a big employer here in Tasmania making undergroud mining equipment. Unfortunately, just today it announced the loss of several hundred jobs as it moves its operations to Asia to become more competative. I do hope Cat treats its Indonesian workers with the same fairness it treated its Tasmanian workers who said it was one of the best employers to work for. It is a massive loss to us.

Great fun Gary - your unit is now immortalized in film as are you! I though the boy's father looked like a well-known actor. My father once gave a crop-dusting demo for Prince Charles of England, back in the '70s. He said that they had a good old time blathering on about the operation, especially since Charles is a Navy pilot himself I believe. Something different to change up the day : )

Cheers,
Neil.
