Yesterday I picked up a gas 35 ( thanks for the tip chriscokid) and I am happy with the tractor . It has starter, generator, crankcase guard, radiator guard and is in good running condition .I need some help with the serial number on the engine block ,from the top it reads
model 2A
bulldozer number
5G1148
The gas 40 is sn. 5G but only up to sn. 5G584 . The sn. on the back of the seat box on this tractor is 5C1571 ,take a look at the pics and tell me what you think .

Hi Moulding,
sorry, but someone has fitted the tag from a D2 Angle Bulldozer Blade on the unit.

As you said the 5G 1001 up is for said D2 Angle Bulldozer Blade.

The gas Forty is indeed 5G 1 to 5G 584.

Gas Thity Five is 5C 1 to 5C 1730, so would be correct.

You just need to find a source for Reproduction Tags to fix the problem.

Did order a New tag for a machine we were working on at The Dealer from Cat once for a restoration project machine but, what came was the wrong S/No punched onto it and a new style tag at that also---sigh.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Scott, nice looking machine with some great options. It was a good weekend for both of us, also bought cat 35, 5C-13. Ours came with a stuck engine and the exhaust manifold full of some hungry critters winter nut supply. Later, Scott and the boys.

Thanks Scott, we have all three books for the 35 so were in good shape in that department. If you have the Caterpillar Gas Tractor, restoration and Interchange Manual, models 10 to 70, by Bob Lavoie. The 35 with tow hook on page 56 and 66 is the same one we brought home yesterday. She was just a few miles west of the Brooks show. If you need anything also just call. Thanks Scott.

looks like I have 5C 520 gas thirty five . I pulled the tag off the block and the back of the trans case and both are 520 . I have the cat books for the 35 but none have any info on the attachments . This cat needs some work but I want to keep my motivation for the best 30 and finnish it for the best show in 2014 so it will be put on the back burner for the time being, thanks for the help.
