Hi,
We purchased a Caterpillar Ten a few years back with a Rambler Six Cylinder engine. It was good for a sawmill, but would rip the track links off in a straight line. The owner had added two frame horns about four feet long from the firewall, and placed the radiator before the engine on the front of the frame ends. All worked good except no original part wasn't left untouched including burning a hole in the brass number plate for a control knob. It served it's purpose and we retired it with dignity.
Good Luck,
Neil

I remember seeing a few years ago, I believe he was from Europe somewhere, a fellow who had a Big Fifteen that was converted to a small diesel engine. Now I don't remember if it was on this site or somewhere else. I'll have to start searching. If I find it I'll post a link.

Found the thread I was thinking of. It shows the Perkins deisel mounted in the tractor. He didn't say how it ran, but it looks like a nice fit in the photos.

Looks like he used the factory clutch and bellhousing from the Perkins, and I am guessing some type of driveline from there to the factory transmission input shaft.

an u beam iron, they made a new frame for the new engine you can see it on the first picture
, i would go for an engine overhaul in your case as you can keep the tractor original, i did that on my ten aswell, 2 new cilinderlinings, new piston rings and the engine is like new! i bought the perkins conversion like this i did not convert it myself, as i would rebuild an engine offcourse.

Thanks for the photos Marcoten. How does that little tractor do for power? Do you know what that diesel is rated at for HP? The original was belt rated at 25HP at 1250 rpm at full load. I'm curious how yours compares power-wise. I'd love to have a twenty-two with a 2-53 Detroit Diesel!!! I know, crazy talk. I just get these crazy ideas sometimes.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
