A Friend has a 1988 Cat Excavator 225 BLC needs to separate track to work on tensioner piston packings. Is the pin one piece or plugs in each end?? Has a divot (3/8Hole) in center on each end . Bob

Does it have a rubber plug in the center of the divot? That would be SALT track and should have an "alligator" link to separate the track..

If just standard sealed track, look for a pin that is solid flat on the end.

It is best not to rmove the track pin because the shock loades on ex. tracks from lifting loades that transfer enough weight to one corner sometimes can lift the rear of the machine off the ground. Driving the pin out can result in ending up with a loose pin that wants to walk back out. If you release the track tension cyl., backthe idler using the back of the bucket all the way back. Using the bucket by lifting the machine slightly and using the swing you should be able to push the track off the idler which can be slid forward and removed if necessary. Repeting the process usually requires using two chains to start the track over the idler. I have done thes on 225 and 235 excavators as well as a 500 Hitichi. Hopes this helps.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
